The Odisha government is expected to appoint a new Director General of Police (DGP) soon. A notification issued by the Odisha Police State Headquarters in Cuttack on Sunday suggests this imminent appointment. The notification has sought the biodata of three IPS officers: AK Ray (IPS:1988:OR), SM Narvane (IPS:1989:OR), and YB Khurania (IPS:1990:OR).

AK Ray is currently serving as the Director of Printing, Publication, and Stationery in Cuttack. SM Narvane is serving as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Home Department. YB Khurania is the Special Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) posted at BSF headquarters in New Delhi.

All three IPS officers have been asked to submit proposals for convening the Empanelment Committee Meeting for the selection of the DGP (HoPF) for Odisha.

YB Khurania’s recent repatriation to parent cadre has fueled speculation that he might replace the incumbent DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi (IPS:1990:OR). However, there are rumours that the race for the top post may yield unexpected results.
