IPS officer N B Bharathi (IPS:1998:OR) is likely to face disciplinary action as the state police headquarters has moved the home department against her alleged unauthorized absence from duty and irresponsible conduct.
This is perhaps the first instance of the police headquarters hauling up an errant IPS officer.
Bharathi is currently posted as inspector general (IG) with Odisha Police’s human rights protection cell (HRPC).
In a letter to the home department on December 24, the police headquarters said Bharathi had been absent from office for some days since November 22 without any prior intimation or leave application. The headquarters acted after receiving a report from the HRPC’s additional director general of police (ADG) S M Narvane on November 26.
