In a significant development, the Odisha government on Monday (27.01.2025) appointed former Director General of Police (DGP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Prakash Mishra (IPS:1977:OR) as Advisor to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
As per a notification issued by the General Administration & Public Grievance (GA&PG) Department, the Odisha government appointed Prakash Mishra as the Advisor to the CM in the rank of a Cabinet Minister.
Mishra held the post of the DGP from 2012 to 2014. He retired in 2016 from the post of Director General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). During his central deputation, he also had headed the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and having stints at the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Union Home Ministry.
Following his retirement, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state in 2019 and unsuccessfully contested as BJP candidate from Cuttack Lok Sabha constituency in 2019 elections.
