The Odisha government on Friday (27.09.2024) appointed senior IPS officer Arun Kumar Sarangi (IPS:1990:OR) as the Chairman of Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC). He will succeed Satyajit Mohanty (Retd.IPS:1988:OR), who assumed the position on February 1, 2021.
According to a notification issued by the General Administration and Public Grievance (GA&PG) Department, ” In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of the Article 316 of Constitution of India, read with Regulation 3 of the Odisha Public Service Commission (Conditions of Service) Regulations, 1952, the Governor of Odisha has been pleased to appoint Shri Arun Kumar Sarangi, IPS, Special Director General of Police (Training) and Director, Biju Patnaik State Police Academy, Odisha as Chairman, Odisha Public Service Commission for a term of six years from the date he enters upon his office or until he attains the age of sixty-two years, whichever is earlier.”
Since Sarangi will turn 62 on July 25, 2027, he can remain as OPSC Chairman for 2 years and 10 months.
Notably, Sarangi was in-charge DGP of Odisha from December 31, 2023 to August 16, 2024 and now posted as Special DG, Training & Director, Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA).
