The Modi government on Saturday (22.06.2024) removed National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General Subodh Kumar Singh amid the NEET-NET controversy. He has been placed on compulsory wait at the Department of Personnel and Training. Pradeep Singh Karola (Retd. IAS:1985:KN), Chairman and Managing Director of the India Trade Promotion Organization, has been given additional charge as DG of the NTA until a regular incumbent is appointed or further orders are issued, whichever is earlier.
Over the past two months, the NTA has faced controversy due to alleged irregularities and paper leaks in two major exams: the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) and the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET).
