Union Minister Jitendra Singh stated on August 9 that there are no ongoing considerations to modify the retirement age of Central Government employees. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Mr. Singh revealed that 122 government officers have been compulsorily retired in the past three years through various provisions of service rules.
The Minister reiterated that there are no active proposals to change the retirement age of central government employees. He also emphasized that the aim of the review process under FR 56(j) and similar provisions is to enhance efficiency and reinforce the administrative structure.
Furthermore, the Minister highlighted the government’s continuous efforts towards digitization, increased utilization of e-office, rule simplification, periodic cadre restructuring, and the elimination of redundant laws. These endeavors are geared towards strengthening the administration and improving overall work efficiency in governance.
It’s important to note that Central Government employees currently retire from service upon reaching 60 years of age.
