CBDT Chairman, PC Mody (IRS-IT:1982) has tried to dispel doubts about large scale displacement or workforce reduction of Income Tax cadre on account of Faceless Assessment Scheme. In a virtual meeting with Income Tax Officials, he has categorically denied any large scale transfers or workforce reduction on account of FAS (Faceless Assessment Scheme).
The technology-driven faceless assessment system aims to end overreach by officials and the charter defines the rights and responsibilities of taxpayers.

The objective of faceless assessment is to completely eliminate physical contact between the taxpayer and the taxman to make tax administration objective, transparent and corruption-free.
This clarification move by CTBT Chairman comes in the wake of growing apprehension in the Cadre of Income Tax in the wake of PM Modi’s important announcements about FAS and tax reforms. Earlier, the representatives of Income Tax Personnel had written a joint letter to their higher ups in the Govt. specifying their doubts and resentments and being left out in the entire scheme of things.
