Senior IPS officer Nitin Agarwal (IPS:1989:KL) was on Sunday (11.06.2023) appointed as the new Director General (DG) of the Border Security Force (BSF). The post of BSF chief has been vacant for more than five months after Pankaj Kumar Singh (IPS:1988:RJ) retired on December 31, 2022. Presently, Agarwal is currently posted as the Additional DG of Operations at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mr. Agarwal to the post of DG, BSF from the date of joining the post and up to 31.07.2026, his date of superannuation, or till further orders whichever is earlier.
Currently, the charge of BSF DG post is being handled by CRPF DG Sujoy Lal Thaosen (IPS:1988:MP) with an additional capacity.
