Niranjan Rajadhyaksha, the Executive Director of Artha Global, has conveyed his inability to assume the role of a member of the 16th Finance Commission due to personal reasons, as stated by the Finance Ministry on Monday.
On January 31, the government had appointed four members to the 16th Finance Commission, with Arvind Panagariya serving as the chair. The appointed members included Ajay Narayan Jha, former expenditure secretary, and retired bureaucrat Annie George Mathew as full-time members. Additionally, Soumya Kanti Ghosh, the Chief Economic Advisor of SBI Group, was named as a part-time member.
Notably, Rajadhyaksha did not participate in the inaugural meeting of the 16th Finance Commission, which took place on February 14. The commission is scheduled to submit its report to the President by October 31, 2025, covering a five-year period starting from April 1, 2026.
