Senior IPS officer Sanjay Singh (IPS:1996:OR), Deputy Director General (DDG) of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), has opted for voluntary retirement from service (VRS), citing personal reasons. Singh’s VRS is effective from April 30, 2022, just 8 months before his scheduled retirement in January 2025. Currently, he holds the position of DDG of NCB’s south-west and southern regions.

Singh headed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that cleared actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan, and five others in May 2022, citing insufficient evidence in the drugs-on-cruise case. Aryan Khan and several others were arrested by the NCB in Mumbai in October 2021 on drug-related charges by a team headed by former NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede.

Moreover, Singh is overseeing an investigation into alleged irregularities committed by former NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede during his tenure in the NCB Mumbai office while handling two drug cases.
