Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Veera Rana (IAS:1988:MP) might receive an extension until the Lok Sabha elections, considering the imminent enforcement of the model code of conduct. Her retirement is scheduled for next month. The government, seemingly reluctant to leave the decision to the election commission post her March 31 retirement, may opt to continue with Rana. This continuity could be attributed to her recent appointment as Chief Secretary by the election commission in November during the state’s assembly polls. If the government opts for a new Chief Secretary, it seems unlikely at this juncture. Notably, Rana assumed the role of MP Chief Secretary on January 17 after holding the additional charge for over a month and a half.
