Senior IAS officer Anurag Jain (IAS:1989:MP) has been appointed as new Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh. Jain will succeed the current Chief Secretary, Veera Rana (IAS:1988:MP), whose service extension expires on September 30. Jain will serve in this role until August 2025.
Anurag Jain is currently serving in the Government of India as Secretary in the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), with additional responsibility as Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
Jain’s appointment is attributed to his experience, seniority, and the reported support of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Although our sources had previously indicated that Rajesh Rajora was a strong contender for the role, it appears that Jain’s strong rapport with the central government bolstered his candidacy for the state’s top bureaucratic post.
This marks the third recent instance, following Rajasthan and Odisha, where an officer serving at the Secretary level in the Government of India has been moved back to their parent cadre to take over as Chief Secretary of a state.
