Most top babus return to work on first day of lockdown 2.0

Abiding with the fresh lockdown guidelines issued by the ministry of home affairs, senior bureaucrats in the capital- Deputy Secretary and above- have resumed their duties. According to sources, 60% of such officers joined the office on Wednesday.

Several Ministers also held a series of meetings with regard to the havoc caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

As per the consolidated guidelines the offices of the “government of India, its autonomous or subordinate offices will remain open” during the extended lockdown period.
While the Deputy Secretary and above have to function with 100% attendance, the “Remaining officers and staff to attend up to 33 per cent as per requirement,” say the guidelines.

Defence, Central Armed Police Forces, Health and Family Welfare, Disaster Management and Early Warning Agencies (IMD, INCOIS, SASE and National Centre of Seismology, CWC, National Informatics Centre, Food Corporation of India, NCC, Nehru Yuva Kendras and Customs can also function without any restrictions.

The new guidelines are to be implemented across the country in a few days. This would mean that the offices of states and Union Territories, their autonomous bodies and local governments will remain open. They include police, home guards, civil defence, fire and emergency services, disaster management, prisons and municipal services.

All other departments of states and UTs will work with restricted staff.

“However, delivery of public services shall be ensured and necessary staff will be deployed for such purpose.”
