The Modi Government is working on a second relief package for the Indian economy hit hard by the coronavirus outbreak and the 21-day nationwide lockdown imposed to curb the contagion.
The Finance Ministry is engaged in this task along with an empowered group in the PMO. This seven member empowered group was formed last week, headed by economic affairs secretary Atanu Chakraborty.
The group is looking at the stress points of the economy like MSME, hospitality, civil aviation, agriculture and allied sectors. It is also mindful of the hardships faced by common people, rendered jobless in the wake of COVID-19.
Last month, the government had announced a relief package in the form of food grains and cash transfers worth 1.70-lakh-crore for the needy sections of society.
