The Central government may soon depute Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre senior officers to Jammu-Kashmir to strengthen governance. According to sources, the need for this move was felt after some J&K cadre officers were posted in Ladakh.

According to a senior official, “Some officers in Jammu Kashmir are holding more than one portfolio at the moment, which impacts efficiency. That’s why more officers will be sent from the AGMUT cadre to J&K.”

After the revocation of Article 370, and division of the state into two union territories in August last year, the 50 per cent quota of J&K was dropped to 33 per cent, the same as the rest of the country.

According to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act 2019, fresh UPSC recruits of the J&K will be assigned to the AGMUT cadre.

According to the Act the existing officers of the J&K cadre will not serve in other UTs, but AGMUT cadre officers can go to J&K.
