Modi government appoints 17 joint secretaries in various govt depts

The Modi government on Monday appointed 17 joint secretaries in different government departments as part of a major bureaucratic reshuffle effected by it.

Of the total officers, four are from Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the rest from other services like Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), Indian Audit and Account Service (IA&AS) and Central Secretariat Service (CSS), among others.

The names of the officers and their postings are as follows:

  1. N.B.S. Rajput (IAS:1999:OR) has been appointed to the post of Joint Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances for a tenure of five years vice V. Shashank Shekhar (IAS:1996:NL).
  2. Ms. Sushma Taisheta (CSS) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy, (Mumbai) for an overall tenure of five years upto 05.07.2023 by downgrading a vacant post of Additional Secretary in the Department vice Marvin Alexander S., (IPoS:1987) consequent on his premature repatriation to parent cadre. Presently, he is serving as Joint Secretary, Department of Justice.
  3. Deepak Kapoor (IA&AS:1998) has been appointed as Additional CEO, GeM SPV (JS level) under the Department of Commerce for a tenure of five years vice S. Surest Kumar (IAS:2000:AP).
  4. Surendra K. Ahirwar (IRTS:1997) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce for an overall tenure of five years upto 08.01.2023 by temporary upgradation of the post of Director held by the Office in the Department, initially for a period of two years.
  5. Ms. Aditi Das Rout (ITS:1986) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture for a tenure upto her superannuation on 31.11.23 vice SC Barma (IPoS:1987)
  6. Satish Singh (IRSME:1996) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Defenece for an overall tenure of five years upto 12.10.2022 vice Ashok Kumar Singh (IAS:1999:KL).
  7. Ms. Mukta Shekhar (IRAS:1994) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Defence, for a tenure of five years vice Kamal Datta (IFoS:1994:UT) consequent on completion of his tenure.
  8. Atul Saxena (IRSS:1991) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries for an overall tenure of five years upto 30.06.2021 by temporary upgradation of the post of Director held by the office in the Ministry.
  9. Purushottam Tiwary (IA&AS) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Heavy Industry for a tenure of five years vice Pravin Laxminarayan Agrawal (IFoS:1994:TR) consqeuent on completion of his tenure.
  10. Ms. Neerja Sekhar (IAS:1993:HY) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting for a tenure of five years vice Ashok Kumar Parmar (IAS:1992:JK).
  11. Niraj Kumar Gayagi (IDAS:1997) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Justice for a tenure of five years vice Ms. Shushma Taishete, consequent of her lateral shift to the Department of Atomic Energy.
  12. Charanpreet Singh Bakshi (IRS-C&CE:1992) has been appointed to the post Joint Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs for a tenure of five years vice Jan-e-Alam (IAS:1991:NL) by temporarily upgrading a vacant post of Director in the Ministry, initially for a period of two years.
  13. K. V. Pratap (IES:1992) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs for an overall tenure of five years upto 23.11.2022 vice Amitabh Kharkwal (IPoS:1989).
  14. Baldeo Purushartha (IAS:2002:PB) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, for a tenure of five years vice K.V. Pratap (IES:1991).
  15. Navneet Mohan Kothari (IAS:2001:MP) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas for an overall tenure of five years upto April 18, 2021 vice Ashutosh Jindal (IAS:1995:TR).
  16. Sanjay Kumar Jain (IRTS:1990) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises for a tenure of five years vice Madhukar Gupta (IAS:1985:RJ), Consequent on completion of his tenure.
  17. Tanveer Qamar Mohammad (IPoS:1994) has been appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation for a tenure of five years vice Arun Kumar Yadav (IAS:1987:SK).
