Recent changes in the AGMUT cadre have seen significant appointments, with Keshav Chandra (IAS:1995:AGMUT) named Chairperson of NMDC and Dr V Candavelou (IAS:1997:AGMUT) appointed as Chief Secretary of Goa. However, the appointments for Chief Secretary positions in Mizoram and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands remain pending.

According to sources, Khilli Ram Meena (IAS:1993:AGMUT), Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs, is most likely to be appointed as Chief Secretary of Mizoram. Renu Sharma (IAS:1988:AGMUT), the current Chief Secretary, is set to retire today. She has been given farewell on October 29. Last Friday, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met with Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting the appointment of Vumlunmang Vualnam (IAS:1992:MN), an IAS officer from the Manipur cadre, as Mizoram’s Chief Secretary. The Chief Minister also requested an alternative candidate if Vualnam cannot be appointed. It now appears that the Home Ministry may favour Meena for the position.

Meanwhile, Senior IAS officer Chandra Bhushan Kumar (IAS:1995:AGMUT) is considered a strong candidate for Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, following Keshav Chandra’s transfer to Delhi. Presently, he is serving as Additional Secretary & Mission Director, Jal Jeevan Mission in the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation
