New Delhi, May 19, 2025: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has relieved IAS officer Sanjit Rodrigues (IAS:2013:AGMUT) from his duties in Goa with immediate effect and directed him to report to Ladakh without delay. A stern warning of disciplinary action has also been issued in case of non-compliance.
Rodrigues, currently serving as CEO of Imagine Panaji Smart City Mission and Secretary for Protocol and Civil Supplies, was transferred to Ladakh on September 12, 2024. However, the Goa government did not relieve him, citing his ongoing role in supervising Smart City projects.
In a fresh directive dated May 16, the MHA invoked the 2016 transfer guidelines mandating that officers join their new posting within 15 days. This is the second reminder issued to Rodrigues regarding his Ladakh posting.
The ministry has rejected all requests for deferral or cancellation of the transfer and stated that no further representations will be considered. The order has also been sent to the Chief Secretaries of Goa and Ladakh, as well as directly to Rodrigues.
The Goa government had retained Rodrigues beyond the original transfer citing the March 31, 2025 deadline for completion of key Smart City projects. He was tasked with overseeing the completion of these delayed works, which had suffered setbacks under previous officers. However, the MHA has made it clear that such administrative considerations will not override central cadre policies.
