In a significant development, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has debarred four IPS officers of the Uttarakhand cadre from central deputation or service abroad for the next five years. These officers are; Neeru Garg (IPS:2005:UK), Mukhtar Mohsin (IPS:2005:UK), Arun Mohan Joshi (IPS:2006:UK), and Rajiv Swaroop (IPS:2006:UK). The Ministry of Home Affairs has communicated this decision to the state government.
Last year, the Uttarakhand government had recommended the names of eight IPS officers for central deputation. However, on January 4 this year, the state government informed the Union Home Ministry that it could not relieve four of them due to various administrative reasons.
On the same day, the Centre had already granted approval for deputation of all eight officers and assigned them postings in various central forces. In its communication, the Centre had made it clear that if the officers were not relieved within a month, they would face a ban on central deputation.
Following a month-long exchange of correspondence between the state and central governments, the Centre has now responded by officially terminating the deputation of these four officers while also barring them from central deputation for the next five years.
