Meghalaya : R V Suchiang likely to be Chief Secretary

The incumbent Chief Secretary M S Rao (IAS:1987:AM) is set to retire on September 30. He will be most likely be succeeded by Rebecca Vanessa Suchiang (IAS:1989:AM), the Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya.

According to the sources in the Meghalaya government, there is no dispute regarding appointment of R V Suchiang as the new Chief Secretary of the state as she is the senior most IAS officer of Meghalaya cadre after Rao.

Presently, Suchiang is serving as Additional Chief Secretary, Personnel & A.R. Cabinet Affairs, Finance, Home (Police), Political, Home (Passport), Home (CD&HG), Ex-Officio Director General, MATI and Chairman-cum-MD, MeECL.

The next senior IAS officer after R V Suchiang is Pankaj Jain (IAS:1990:AM). He is currently posted as Additional Secretary in the Union Finance Ministry and is unlikely to return to Meghalaya. The next in line is D P Wahlang (IAS:1993:AM), who is serving in the state as Additional Chief Secretary, Education Deptt., PHE Department, Sectt. Admn. Deptt., Forest & Environment Deptt. and Public Works Deptt.
