While Maharashtra is leading the country in the spread of coronavirus, the Osmanabad district of the state has declared itself as free of COVID-19.
Credit for this largely goes to the district collector Deepa Mudhol Munde and the superintendent of police, a young IITian-turned IPS officer- Raj Tilak Roushan. These officers converted the district from orange to green zone in a short span of time.
Roushan used geo-fencing technology to monitor people who were to be quarantined, either at home or in the hospital.
They created a virtual fence for a particular area and used a tracking device, which was the mobile phone of the corona suspect. If the suspect breached the virtual fence, the control room got an immediate alert.
Osmanabad had three positive cases and more than 300 persons were put in quarantine. In addition nearly 700 were kept in self- isolation.
According to Roushan, they strictly implemented lockdown, sealed the borders, and enforced social distancing. They set up a control room for geo-fencing system at the district police headquarters, where a team of police personnel was deployed to monitor all suspects.
