The Maharashtra government on Sunday appointed Sujata Saunik (IAS:1987:MH) as the Chief Secretary of the state, following the conclusion of incumbent Nitin Kareer’s (IAS:1988:MH) tenure on Saturday, his last working day, although his retirement was officially scheduled for today on 30th June.

Sujata Saunik is the first woman Chief Secretary of the state.

Before being appointed to the top post, she served as the Additional Chief Secretary of the General Administration Department and Home Affairs.
