The Maharashtra cadre IPS officers are a disgruntled lot these days, as their promotions have been held up for more than six months now. The promotion list, cleared by the DPC several months ago, is pending with the Police Establishment Board (PEB) of State police. Dozens of IPS officers from SPs upwards, are waiting for their promotion to the next level.
According to sources in the Establishment Board there are enough vacancies from DIG up to ADGP to accommodate all those who have been cleared by the DPC. Only at the DG level, there is only one vacancy at present, while the DPC has cleared the names of three ADGP rank officers namely-Rashmi Shukla, Dr K Venkatesham and Rajnish Seth for promotions as Director General.
The apparent reasons for the delay in promotions are formation of a new State Government, and the countrywide Covid-19 lockdown, that paralysed the decision making at every level. Due to this delay, the officers are deprived of financial benefits for six months, and their career prospects as at central level are also affected.
