Former Maharashtra Chief Secretary Manoj Saunik (Retd.IAS:1987:MH) has been appointed as the Chairman of the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA). He will take charge of the post after the current Chairman Ajoy Mehta (Retd.IAS:1984:MH) steps down from the post in September.
Saunik was selected by a committee from a pool of applicants for the role, as per a notification issued by the state housing department.
Saunik is the husband of the current Maharashtra Chief Secretary, Sujata Saunik (IAS:1987:MH).
According to the Real Estate Regulatory Act, a Chairman’s tenure is for a period of five years or when the Chairman completes 65 years of age. Ajoy Mehta will complete 65 years of age on September 21, and hence the new Chairman will take over from September 22.
