Bihar cadre IPS officer Shivdeep Wamanrao Lande (IPS:2006:BH) surprised many by announcing his resignation from the service on Thursday. On the same day, Maharashtra cadre IPS officer Nimit Goyal (IPS:2014:MH) also made waves by deciding to step down, citing personal reasons. Goyal expressed his desire to transition into the private sector, leaving many both within and outside the bureaucracy surprised by his decision.
Just two weeks earlier, Goyal had been moved from his position as DCP (Crime) in Nagpur to DCP in Mumbai. His resignation, submitted on July 8, is currently awaiting approval from the Director General of Police and a final decision from the state home department.
The last high-profile resignation in Maharashtra’s police force occurred in January 2014, when Mumbai Police Commissioner Satya Pal Singh sought voluntary retirement from the IPS to contest the Lok Sabha elections as a BJP candidate from Uttar Pradesh.
