The Maharashtra government has appointed IAS officer Sanjay Kumar (IAS:1984:MH) as the new Chief Secretary of the state, while incumbent Ajoy Mehta (IAS:1984:MH) has been named Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Kumar, who is currently Additional Chief Secretary in the housing department and also holds the additional charge of the home department, will take up his new assignment on July 1.
Mehta, who retires on June 30 after his decades-long bureaucratic career, had been given two extensions as chief secretary earlier.
