The Maharashtra government Tuesday (27.02.2024) issued an order extending the tenure of IPS officer Rashmi Shukla (IPS:1988:MH) as the state Director General of Police (DGP) for a two-year period. Despite her initial appointment as DGP on January 3 of the same year, she was initially set to retire on June 30, allowing for only a six-month tenure.

The home department’s order, referencing Supreme Court directives on the duration of the state DGP’s tenure, ensures that Rashmi Shukla will now hold the position until January 3, 2026.

Before her assignment as DGP, Shukla served on central deputation, leading the Sashastra Seema Bal. Prior to that, she held the position of Additional Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). During her service in the state police, she had previously served as the Pune Police Commissioner and led the State Intelligence Department (SID) during the tenure of the Devendra Fadnavis-led BJP government.
