The Kerala government on Monday (30.06.2025) appointed senior IPS officer RA Chandrasekhar (IPS:1991:KL) as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the state. He will take over from Shaik Darvesh Saheb (IPS:1990:KL), who is retiring today.

As reported by www.legendofficers.com on June 17, Chandrasekhar had emerged as the frontrunner for the top police post. Again, on June 28, we reported—based on highly placed sources—that he would be appointed. Today’s official announcement confirms our reporting, once again establishing Legend Officers as a trusted source for accurate updates on bureaucratic appointments.

Chandrasekhar is the second senior-most IPS officer in the Kerala cadre. He is currently on central deputation, serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau.

Notably, on June 26, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) submitted a panel of three senior IPS officers to the Kerala government for consideration. Besides Chandrasekhar, the panel included Nitin Agarwal (IPS:1989:KL), currently serving as Road Safety Commissioner, and Yogesh Gupta (IPS:1993:KL), Director General of Fire and Rescue Services.
