In a significant development, the Kerala cabinet on Wednesday (18.12.2024) approved the promotion of senior IPS officer M R Ajithkumar (IPS:1995:KL) to the rank of Director General of Police.
Ajithumar had been under fire from the opposition for his “controversial meetings” with senior RSS leaders and alleged role in the disruption of the Thrissur Pooram. He was accused of disrupting the festival to help the BJP win the Lok Sabha seat from central Kerala. Later, he was removed as ADGP (Law & Order) and posted to the Armed Police Battalion in October, 2024.
According to a release from the Chief Minister’s Office, the cabinet approved the recommendations of the scrutiny committee regarding promotion of existing IPS officers in the state cadre. Alongside Ajithkumar, S Suresh (IPS: 1995: KL), currently on central deputation with the Special Protection Group, was also promoted as DGP.
Additionally, Manoj Abraham (IPS:1994:KL) is set to be promoted to the DGP rank following the retirement of K Padmakumar (IPS:1989:KL) on April 30, 2025.
