Kerala IAS officer N Prasanth’s (IAS:2007:KL) woes refuse to die down, thanks to his obsession with social media. That is the reason why the government is now contemplating penal action against him instead of reinstating him after the completion of his six-month’s suspension.
In a fresh salvo, this former Agriculture Secretary made a cryptic Facebook post stating that a critical decision would be made on Tuesday. It led the people speculate about his next move. It instigated the Suspension Review Committee to recommend an investigation prior to any potential disciplinary action against him. The Chief Minister’s approval has been sought to appoint an investigating officer- either a senior IAS officer or a committee of IAS officers- to conduct the inquiry.

Interestingly, N. Prasanth was placed under suspension due to a controversial social media post in which he allegedly berated Additional Chief Secretary A Jayathilak (IAS:1991:KL) and Vytilla Mobility Hub MD K Gopalakrishnan (IAS:2013:KL).
Initially suspended for two months, his suspension was extended for four more months in January.

Incidentally, Gopalakrishnan too faced suspension during the same period but was reinstated in January itself. But Prashanth’s belligerent approach to a charge memo served on him complicated problems for him. Despite sending several letters in response, his answers were found unsatisfactory, prompting the government to initiate an inquiry.
Now, as things stand, once the Chief Minister approves the process, trouble for Prasanth will begin to unfold.
