The suspension of senior Kerala IAS officer K Gopalakrishnan (IAS:2013:KL) has been revoked, while the suspension of N Prasanth (IAS:2007:KL) has been extended for 120 days, starting Friday (January 10, 2025).

Gopalakrishnan was earlier suspended for allegedly creating a WhatsApp group named “Mallu Hindu IAS Officers” on Diwali night (October 31), which included officers from various communities.

Gopalakrishnan, however, had claimed in his police complaint that he had not added any officers to the group in question and that his phones were hacked to create the group. Yet, the punitive action was taken against him.

At the time of his suspension, Gopalakrishnan was the Director of Industries and Commerce.

The government, while reinstating Gopalkrishnan, said that the Suspension Review Committee reviewed his suspension and observed that there was “no substantive ground necessitating the continuation of the officer under suspension”.

But the luck did not favour another suspended IAS officer, Prasanth N, who continues to be under suspension. Both these officers were suspended on November 11 last year.

In the case of Prasanth, the Review Committee recommended for the extension of his suspension for a period of 120 more days with effect from January 10.

Prasanth was suspended for making derogatory comments against his senior, Additional Chief Secretary A Jayathilak (IAS:1991:KL), through his social media posts. Prasanth had alleged that Jayathilak ruined the career of his subordinates and was trying to defame him by spreading unfounded allegations against him through the media.
