The Election Commission of India on Thursday (24.10.2024) appointed IAS officer Pranabjyoti Nath (IAS:2005:KL) as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the Kerala. The Commission has instructed the state government to ensure Nath assumes the role immediately and to submit a compliance report within a week.
Nath is currently serving as Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs, as well as Minority Welfare.
Nath’s appointment was made from a list of three officers submitted to the ECI on Monday, following the rejection of two previous lists proposed by the govt.
The CEO post had been vacant since August 30, when former CEO, Sanjay M Kaul (IAS:2001:KL), left for central deputation after overseeing the 2021 assembly elections and this year’s Lok Sabha elections. Kaul had been in the role since July 2021.
