The echo of apathy, frustration, discontent and disgruntlement seems to be a common feature of an election, be it political or otherwise. The Kerala bureaucracy is finding it in a hard way. As the election to the IAS Officers’ Association around the corner in the state, conferred officers have emerged as a disgruntled group vociferously echoing their discontent. These officers nurse frustration over discrimination.
This group, comprising 55 conferred officials, is charging the association with neglecting their demands for proper accommodation or providing adequate representation in the association to conferred officers. The result is this group often avoids attending association meetings as they feel they are typically relegated to less significant roles, such as joint secretary or other minor positions within the executive committee. These officials were promoted to the IAS cadre from the Kerala Administrative Service.
The association has a total cadre strength of 165 officials, out of the 165 officials, 110 are regular recruits through direct recruitment, while the remaining 55 are conferred IAS officers.
There is no doubt that conferred IAS officials too make a mark by excelling in their responsibilities and earning a reputation for them, yet they fail to get key posts in the association.
