The Chief Secretary Dr. V Venu (IAS:1990:KL) has once again presented a report to the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, reiterating the request for the withdrawal of the suspension of IG P Vijayan (IPS:1999:KL). This follow-up report emphasizes that reinstating the IG will not impede the ongoing departmental investigation.

IG Vijayan had been suspended in the aftermath of allegations that he had leaked the travel details of a suspect related to the Elathur train arson case on May 18. Nevertheless, the IG refuted all such allegations in his response to the government’s notice of disciplinary action.

This suspension prompted controversy within the police force, with some arguing that it should have been limited to a warning, while others believed that Vijayan had committed a serious violation of rules. Approximately two months after the suspension, a review committee led by the Chief Secretary recommended the reinstatement of the IG.
