Within 24 hours of being deputed to the AGMUT cadre (Delhi Segment), senior IAS officer Kaushal Raj Sharma (IAS:2006:UP) has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Delhi Jal Board. He replaces IAS officer Shilpa Shinde (IAS:2006:AGMUT) in the role.
The official appointment was made on Wednesday, just a day after the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) approved his three-year inter-cadre deputation from the Uttar Pradesh cadre to the AGMUT cadre, with the concurrence of the Uttar Pradesh government and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Sharma’s sudden move to Delhi had sparked considerable speculation within bureaucratic circles, with some anticipating he might be appointed as Secretary to the Chief Minister of Delhi. However, the announcement of his appointment as CEO of the Delhi Jal Board swiftly ended the speculation.
Sharma, a 2006-batch IAS officer, is known for his administrative efficiency and long tenure in Varanasi, where he served as District Magistrate and later as Divisional Commissioner, playing a crucial role in executing key infrastructure and urban development projects, including the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor.
His new assignment in Delhi is seen as a significant responsibility, especially given the critical role of the Delhi Jal Board in managing the capital’s water supply and related infrastructure.
