A senior IPS officer in Karnataka finds himself in a strange situation these days after his phone number had been shared in Bihar as a helpline for migrant labourers. Hundreds of Bihar migrant labourers are calling on his personal number every day for food and ration.

It all started when IGP (administration) Seemanth Kumar Singh (IPS:1996:KN) got a call from one of his contacts in Bihar, that 400 labourers were stuck in Bangalore. Seemanth sought the help of his colleagues and food was delivered. However, local media in Bihar wrote about Seemanth and made his personal number public.

This number is being circulated on WhatsApp groups in Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka and Kerala as a helpline number for labourers.

And since then, everyday Seemanth he has been getting hundreds of distress calls for food from labourers.

For all the calls that he received, Seemanth directed local police to deliver essential supplies.

The IPS officer says nearly 4000 people have since been provided ration by the police with the help of NGOs and other agencies.
