Following the retirement of Chief Justice Ravi Shankar Jha of the Punjab & Haryana High Court on October 14, Justice Ritu Bahri assumed the role of Acting Chief Justice of the same high court on October 15. Notably, she holds the distinction of being the first woman to serve as the Chief Justice of the Punjab & Haryana High Court.
The Central government, on October 12, officially notified the appointment of Justice Ritu Bahri as the Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab & Haryana High Court, effective from October 14, following Chief Justice R.S. Jha’s retirement.
Chief Justice Ravi Shankar Jha had been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Punjab & Haryana High Court in 2019, and his retirement marked the transition in leadership.
