Senior IPS officer Rashmi Ranjan Swain (IPS:1991:AGMUT) has been entrusted with additional responsibilities as the Director General of Police (DGP) for the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, effective from November 1, 2023. Currently, he is serving as the Special Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) within the Jammu & Kashmir Police.
The incumbent DGP, Dilbag Singh (IPS:1987:AGMUT), is scheduled to retire on October 31, making him the longest-serving Police Chief of Jammu & Kashmir.
As per an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in addition to his existing duties, Rashmi Ranjan Swain will hold the position of Director General of J&K Police from November 1, 2023, until further directives are issued.
“with the approval of competent authority, Shri R.R. Swain, IPS presently posted as special DG, CID, Jammu and Kashmir will also function as in charge of Director General of Police in addition to his existing charge with effect from 1.11.2023 and until further orders,” the MHA order read.
