In a significant development, the Jharkhand government appointed senior IPS officer Anurag Gupta (IPS:1990:JH) as the in-charge Director General of Police (DGP) early Friday morning. Currently, he is serving as the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) with additional responsibilities as Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
The incumbent DGP Ajay Kumar Singh (IPS:1989:JH) has been transferred and posted as the MD of the Police Housing Corporation. Meanwhile, Prashant Singh (IPS:1992:JH), MD of Police Housing Corporation, has been posted as DG Wireless.
Notably Ajay Kumar Singh had been appointed as DGP on February 15 2023 after Neeraj Sinha was relieved on February 11.
Singh’s appointment had then put to rest the contempt proceedings against the Jharkhand government for the alleged violation of its judgement of two-year fixed tenure for a state police chief who has to be selected from a list to be prepared by the UPSC.
