The central government on Friday (November 28, 2025) gave senior IPS officer Praveen Kumar (IPS:1993:WB) the additional charge of Director General, Border Security Force (BSF). He is currently serving as the DG of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). He will take over from Daljit Singh Chaudhary (IPS:1990:UP), who retires on November 30, 2025.
According to an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Praveen Kumar will hold the post until a regular incumbent is appointed or until further orders.
Before taking charge of the ITBP on October 1, 2025, Kumar worked as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB). In his 32 years of service, he has held several important posts in West Bengal and during his central deputation.
Kumar has wide field experience from West Bengal, where he handled many law-and-order duties. His intelligence and security background is expected to help him manage the BSF, which guards the India–Pakistan, India–Bangladesh and India–Tibet borders.
