Is Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar (IPS:1990:UP) getting a service extension? An official memorandum has sparked intense speculation in the state’s administrative and police circles. As per the memo, a farewell ceremony for IPS officers retiring on May 31 is scheduled for Thursday at 1:30 PM at the Amar Shaheed Bhagat Singh Lounge in the Signature Building, Gomti Nagar Extension.

The memo lists five officers due for retirement: PV Ramasastry (IPS:1989:UP), DG, Prisons Administration and Reform Services; Sanjay M Tarde (IPS:1990:UP), DG, Telecommunication; Kiran Yadav (IPS-SPS:2010), DIG, Women and Child Security; Arvind Chaturvedi (IPS-SPS:2011), DIG, Vigilance Establishment; and Tej Swaroop Singh (IPS-SPS:2011), DIG, Personnel, DGP Office.

One omission from the list has caught widespread attention—DGP Prashant Kumar. Since he too is scheduled to retire on May 31, his absence from the farewell ceremony has raised eyebrows and sparked speculation about a possible service extension.

In a system where protocol is rarely violated and paperwork seldom errs at this level, such an omission is not being viewed as accidental.

No formal announcement has yet been made, but the missing name in the farewell memo has already turned into an administrative talking point—perhaps a quiet signal of something soon to unfold.
