The Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers (regular recruits) from the 2023 batch met the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. The meeting was part of their formal introduction to the country’s highest constitutional authority.

While addressing the IPS probationers, President Murmu highlighted the role our law enforcing agency plays in the progress of the country. She emphasized the need of policing in maintaining law and order and the crucial role it plays in ensuring governance, justice, and protecting citizens’ rights.

President Murmu made a special mention to the increasing representation of women in the IPS saying that this shift is not only transforming the traditional role of the women but also the very nature of policing. She expressed happiness at the fact that out of a total of 188 IPS recruits, 54 were women representing a notable 28.72 percent.

The President stressed the need for the young officers to imbibe the virtues of being efficient and empathetic both while discharging their duty. She called them the representatives of the government and said upholding the rule of law is crucial for “economic growth and social development. “Without law and order, progress remains an empty promise,” she told them.
