IPS officer’s promotion put on hold in Maharashtra

Maharastra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has decided to postpone promotion of IPS officers till the end of the general election on the grounds of maintaining law and order.

The decision will affect the 1994 batch IPS officers who were slated for promotion as additional director general (ADG) of police as per protocol. The more notable among them in the city are Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order) Deven Bharti and Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashutosh Dumbare.There are at least three vacant ADG posts in the state.

The shelving of promotions also affects the deputy inspector general (DIGs) from the 2001 batch who were hoping to be elevated to the rank of inspector general of police on completion of 18 years of service, as well as DIGs from 2006 batch and deputy commissioner of police from the 2005 batch.
