Senior diplomat Gourangalal Das (IFS:1999) has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Korea. An order issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday (September 17, 2025) confirmed his appointment.
Das is presently serving as Joint Secretary in the MEA, heading the East Asia Division. He is expected to take up the new assignment shortly.
In an official statement, the MEA said, “Shri Gourangalal Das (IFS:1999), presently Joint Secretary in the Ministry, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Korea.”
Das, a 1999-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, has served in various capacities in India’s diplomatic missions abroad as well as in the MEA headquarters. He is regarded as an expert on East Asia affairs
