Illegal miners try to crush trainee IAS under tractor

In a shocking incident, a gang of sand miners tried to crush a trainee IAS officer under the wheels of a tractor on Tuesday midnight in the area falling under Bhojpur police station in Moradabad of Uttar Pradesh. The 2022-batch IAS officer, Ram Mohan Meena, is currently posted as joint magistrate in Sadar Tehsil there and was on a night patrol to stop illegal mining when this incident occurred. The miners even attacked the team with sugarcane allegedly pulled from a nearby field.

An FIR has been registered against eight unidentified individuals on the basis of a complaint filed by lekhpal. According to Moradabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Satpal Antil, 10 police teams have been constituted to conduct an extensive search operation to nab the attackers.

The trainee officer had gone to conduct a raid after getting a tip-off about illegal mining. The police team, which had accompanied Meena, later seized two tractor-trolleys and heavy earthmovers from the spot. According to police, the illegal sand miners managed to flee after crossing the border into Uttarakhand territory when additional police forces arrived.
