In significant development, Indian Foreign Service Officer Ambarish Vemuri (IFS:2016) has been appointed Deputy Secretary in Prime Minister’s Office for three years. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Thursday (26.06.2025), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mr Vemuri to the post for a period of three years from the date of joining, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Notably, with this posting, Vemuri becomes the sixth Indian Foreign Service officer currently serving in the PMO. The other IFS officers presently working in the PMO include:
- Deepak Mittal (IFS:1998) – Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister
- Vivek Kumar (IFS:2004) – Private Secretary to the Prime Minister
- Nidhi Tewari (IFS:2014) – Private Secretary to the Prime Minister
- Shweta Singh (IFS:2008) – Director in the PMO
- Vipin Kumar (IFS:2013) – Deputy Secretary in the PMO
