IAS officer Saket Kumar (IAS:2009:BH) has been appointed as Private Secretary to Amit Shah, Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation. His appointment specifically pertains to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Friday (28.06.2024), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal to appoint Saket Kumar to the post of Private Secretary with effect from the date of assumption of the charge of the post.

His tenure will continue until August 16, 2025, marking the maximum permissible limit of seven years away from his cadre. This is a relaxation of the five-year upper limit for working as a Private Secretary/Officer on Special Duty in a Ministry’s staff or on a co-terminus basis, or until he ceases to function as Private Secretary to the Minister, or until further orders, whichever comes first.

Saket Kumar has been serving as the Private Secretary to Home Minister Amit Shah since June 2019. Prior to this, he was the Private Secretary to Manoj Sinha from July 2018, when Sinha was the Minister of State for Communications and Railways.
