IAS officer Rinku Dugga (IAS:1994:AGMUT), who, along with her IAS husband Sanjeev Khirwar (IAS:1994:AGMUT), faced controversy for clearing Delhi’s Thyagraj Stadium for a leisurely walk for their dog, has been compulsorily retired by the government, as reported. The incident had drawn significant public criticism in May 2022 when it was revealed that the couple had ordered athletes practicing at the stadium to vacate to accommodate their dog’s stroll.

Following the public outrage in May 2022, Dugga was transferred to Arunachal Pradesh, where she served as Principal Secretary for Indigenous Affairs. Meanwhile, her husband, Sanjeev Khirwar, whose name was also linked to the controversy, was posted in Ladakh.

According to reports, the decision to compulsorily retire IAS officer Rinku Dugga was based on her overall performance record. This action was taken under Fundamental Rules (FR) 56(j) and Rule 48 of the Central Civil Services (CCS) Pension Rules of 1972. Such a move can be made by the government if it deems the removal of an IAS officer to be in the public interest.
