IAS officer Biswajit Pegu (IAS:2009:AM) has been appointed as Director of Census Operations (DCO) and Director of Citizen Registration (DCR), Assam, under the Central Staffing Scheme. He will succeed Debajyoti Dutta (IAS:2010:AM), who has been holding the post since December 2022.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Tuesday (December 30, 2025), the competent authority has approved Pegu’s appointment at the Director level for a tenure of three years. The tenure will be effective from January 1, 2026, or from the date he assumes charge of the post, whichever is later, and will remain subject to further orders.
Pegu is currently serving in his parent cadre of Assam as Commissioner and Secretary in the Home and Political Departments. The DoPT has directed that he be relieved of his present responsibilities and join the post within three weeks from the date of appointment order issued.
