The Modi government has granted Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla (IAS:1984:AM) a one-year extension till August 22, 2024. This decision, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, was conveyed through a notification by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Friday (04.08.2023).
Originally set to retire in November 2020 after a one-year tenure as Home Secretary, Bhalla’s service was first extended on October 17, 2020, until August 22, 2021. Subsequently, he received two additional one-year extensions, leading up to his current term’s expiration. This marks his fourth extension in the role.
